How often to post on Instagram per week
Three to five posts a week, plus daily stories. Why Reels and feed posts do not follow the same rhythm
Three to five feed posts a week, and stories every day. That is the rhythm accounts hold while still growing. Instagram is not TikTok: posting three times a day does not multiply your reach, it tires your audience.
Reels and posts behave differently
A Reel keeps reach for days and touches people who do not follow you. A feed post plays out in its first two hours, almost entirely among your followers. Two mechanics, two rhythms.
- Reels: three to five a week, this is what feeds discovery
- Posts and carousels: two to three a week, for people already following
- Stories: every day, the only format where daily frequency is expected
They feed the relationship with existing followers, not discovery. Eight stories a day does not make up for missing Reels.
What happens if you post too much
Instagram rarely shows two posts from the same account back to back in the feed. Post twice in a day and the second often reaches fewer people than the first. You split your reach instead of adding to it.
Unfollows follow quickly: someone seeing your account three times a day gets tired, even if they liked your content.
A rhythm that holds
- Starting out: three posts a week, two of them Reels, plus one story a day.
- Established: five a week, alternating Reels and carousels.
- Selling: keep the rhythm and reserve one post in five for your offer. Beyond that, engagement drops.
Timing matters, especially in the feed
A feed post plays out in its first two hours: publishing while your audience sleeps kills it. For Reels the stakes are lower, reach spreads over days.
