How often to post on YouTube per week

One long video a week, or three to five Shorts. Why consistency weighs more than volume there

One long video a week, published the same day at the same time. Or three to five Shorts a week if that is your format. YouTube rewards predictable consistency more than raw volume.

Why consistency weighs so much

YouTube builds habits. A subscriber who knows your video lands on Thursday comes back on Thursday. That loyalty counts in the first hours, and the first hours decide whether the video gets recommended.

A channel publishing irregularly, even often, loses that edge. Two videos a month on a fixed date often beat six scattered at random.

Long videos and Shorts, two logics

  • Long video: one a week is enough, it takes work and gets watched for a long time
  • Shorts: three to five a week, they work like TikTok, on volume
  • Mixing both works, as long as Shorts do not eat the long video
Publish before the peak, not during

YouTube needs two or three hours to index a video and start suggesting it. Publish ahead of when your audience watches.

A rhythm that holds

  1. Starting out: one video every two weeks, but never a missed appointment.
  2. Growing: one a week, same day, plus two or three Shorts.
  3. YouTube is your job: one long a week and one Short per working day, filmed in batches.

Weekend mornings work well

People watch longer on Saturday and Sunday mornings, which helps watch time, the metric YouTube looks at first.
